Posted in Teasers with tags , , , , on November 27, 2014 by Gary Lee Vincent

Hello Darkened Ghouls,

It has been a while since my last post… sorry about that. I just wrapped up my 2014 touring schedule and can now settle in and start writing again.

First off, I wish each of you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Secondly, work has officially started on DARKENED MINDS, the fifth installment in the DARKENED SERIES.  In typical fashion, each book needs to be better than the previous, so be prepared for some action-packed horror to be coming you way in 2015.

Enjoy the holidays everyone!

Gary

Darkened - The West Virginia Vampire Series

Right on the hills (no pun intended) of Darkened Hollows’ release, I am pleased to announce work is underway for Darkened Waters

I’ve completed the first chapter and plotted the dire path into the bloodiest installment yet in the Darkened series (and you thought Book II was intense!)

Blood will flow (like water) in this nightmarish triquel that began with Darkened Hills, as the cambion Cane brothers open up the Gateway to Hell in Melas, overrun the town of Tarklin, and set loose the most evil vampire forces known to man as the End Times approaches.

Stay tuned… things are getting interesting!

The wait is finally over!

Darkened Hollows by Gary Lee Vincent

“When the box was opened, there was only one living person to feed on.” Legion’s eyes grew crimson red with a chaotic glow, “It didn’t even come close to quenching my thirst.”

Deep within the coal mines of Melas, something sinister is just dying to get out!

In the heart-stopping sequel to the award-winning Darkened Hills, Jonathan and William must return to West Virginia to face possible criminal charges stemming from their last visit to the damned town of Melas, where both had narrowly escaped the clutches of a vampire seethe.

And as livestock start mysteriously getting murdered with all of their blood drained, worried farmers are searching for answers – leaving the local Sheriff and his deputy racing against time to learn the cause before a more violent crime is committed.

Meanwhile, a nearby mining accident traps a group of coal miners, forcing a perilous escape through the abandoned Runners Ridge mine.

As the trapped miners soon discover, the dead don’t always stay dead and the horrors that are unleashed is just the beginning of the terror about to fall on the rural community nested within the Darkened Hollows!

This is Book II of DARKENED: The West Virginia Vampire Series by Gary Lee Vincent.

*** WARNING – CONTAINS SPOILERS ***

Since I am from WV I always enjoy reading books written by WV authors. Gary Lee Vincent is a new to me author that in writing Darkened Hills has written one of my favorite genres vampire/horror fiction. The setting is in the great state of WV, in a tiny town called Melas, a fictionalized town that sits about two hours outside of Pittsburgh Pa, the town was once a thriving community but due to the dark forces that enveloped the community it became a ghost town, many of the residents started moving away when people started disappearing, but there are forty-three residents that are unaccounted for, including the town’s doctor and his wife. What could have happened to the residents, and how can that many people disappear without a trace?

Johnathan Harker has come back to his hometown in the hopes of purchasing the Madison House for back taxes, but that doesn’t happen. Even though the house appears abandoned, in truth, the person living there is the worst kind of evil there is. The vampire that lives in Madison House, had been leading a very low profile life for years, hiring a couple of townspeople to bring him people to feed on, people that wouldn’t be missed and then their bodies would be disposed of. As if that’s not bad enough, one night something far worse is unleashed, something that has an unquenchable thirst for blood! Can anyone put a stop to the evil that has the tiny town in its clutches, and will anyone survive?

This story grabs you and sucks you in and doesn’t turn you loose. The whole town of Melas is full of weird, characters, from the guy who likes to “herd cats” to the alcoholic real estate agent who makes a deal with the devil, or the guy who donates “hamburger meat” to the church, and it really isn’t hamburger meat at all! A story that never gets dull, just when you think nothing worse can happen, guess what it does. With the way the story ended it leaves its readers wanting more, and we can only hope for a sequel that gives us the story of Ralphie!

This book is a must read for anyone that loves horror, blood, dark humor, gore, and vampires from your worst nightmare! Be warned once you start reading this book, you wont be able to put it down, its just that good!

CHAPTER 1 (first couple pages)
Jonathan did not start out his life to become a rambler, it just worked out that way. Nor did he ever think of himself as a father figure, yet here he was traveling the country with a young boy most considered to be his son.

Both Johnny and William had been through a lot and both were trying to leave a troubled past behind them.

For a couple years, Johnny worked as a diesel mechanic at a truck stop near Wheeling, West Virginia. After that, he did seasonal work at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Once the summer was over, Johnny thought he might get on at an automotive plant in Michigan, but then the automotive industry tanked and he found himself on the road again. Now, he and the boy were taking their next step in life as they crossed the border into Canada.

No matter where they traveled, Johnny would always seek a paper from West Virginia where he grew up. The Clarksburg Exponent Telegram was getting harder and harder to come by in print, especially the further away he traveled. Of course, he could get online and look up the paper, but even the Internet didn’t deliver the news quite like the printed version.

Johnny wasn’t exactly from Clarksburg, but rather just a few miles west on Route 50. He was curious about his home town and knew that if he ever heard anything from there, the Exponent Telegram would be his best bet to find out about it.

Gazing at the papers in the Canadian newsstand in Colfax, Ontario, he realized that he would probably need to get a subscription if he were to keep reading the paper.

William looked up with hollow eyes at Johnny. He was not a talker, but hidden within was an intelligent and thoughtful child. “Sometimes, no news is good news, Jonathan,” the boy said.

“I guess you’re right,” Johnny said with a sigh. The two returned to their car and pulled away into the Ontario afternoon.

Johnny was able to get a job detailing cars at a local Buick dealership that took their share of both new and used cars on the lot. The job wasn’t glamorous, in fact, he never even received tips, but it kept food on the table and a roof over their heads.

Their home at the present consisted of a rented trailer over near the industrial section of town. He got it on a month-to-month lease, which was fine for Johnny, because he never knew when he and the boy would have to be packing up and moving again.

It was late September when William came through the door as he always did this time of day when he walked down the street to check the mail. “Your paper is here,” he said as he placed a two-week old copy of the Exponent Telegram in Johnny’s lap.

“Thank you, William.”

“You’re welcome, Jonathan,” William replied.

The two had been in the trailer for almost three months and the old Clarksburg news was pretty much the same as any other day.

He was about to head out to the garbage with it when an article on Page A4 caught his eye. Finally, something about his home town, he thought.

As he read through the article, he left the paper folded and set it down next to William’s iPod. The article bothered him a lot. Maybe William would read it, maybe he would not.

Later that night, William came to Jonathan, and said, “I don’t think the matter is behind us.”

“No, I don’t think it is,” was all Johnny could say.

“I’m worried,” William said flatly.

“Me too,” replied Johnny.
